Director Andy Muschietti said in the sequel said:   “On the second movie, that dialogue between timelines will be more present,” if we’re telling the story of adults, we are going to have flashbacks that take us back to the ‘80s and inform the story in the present day.”

While Chapter One took place entirely in 1988 and 1989, Chapter Two will be set in the present day, and will have the kids from the first movie as grown-ups,  they will reunite to fight against Pennywise 27 years into present day.
