There will some things will remain the same as the original series such as; It follows Thomas Magnum (Selleck’s former role), a decorated ex-Navy SEAL but instead of the backstory that Magnum was a Vietnam Special Ops veteran — instead the new series says Magnum is returning home from Afghanistan, and using his military skills to become a private investigator. The original TV Series aired from 1980 – 1988
