127 Texas Gas Stations Accused of Price Gouging

The Attorney General of Texas received 5,5000 complaints from consumers that were accusing businesses of price gouging during the disaster of Hurricane Harvey.  Several gas stations in DFW were included in the violations in Carrollton, Richardson and Arlington.  Complaints filed that gas stations displayed gas prices around $3 but prices charged were $6.99 and above per gallon of regular unleaded gas.   The Texas Deceptive Trade Practices Act lets the attorney general sue businesses for price gouging, for up to $20,000 per violation.    READ MORE:  HERE

“At the outset of Harvey, I made it clear that my office would not tolerate price gouging of vulnerable Texans by any individuals or businesses looking to profit from the hurricane,” Attorney General Ken Paxton said in a news release. “We’ve given 127 alleged offenders an opportunity to resolve these issues with our office or face possible legal action for violating state law.”

More gas stations are facing fines for price gouging… including many in North Texas.
