Check Your Receipt When You Buy Gift Cards

This first began as a news report from North Carolina when a women reviewed her gift card purchase,  but now other shoppers have sounded off saying they have seen sales tax added too. Did you look closely at the receipt? If you paid sales tax, you shouldn’t have.
Gift Cards is big business, more than a $9 billion industry.  Gift cards can only expire five years after the date the card was purchased or the date money was last loaded onto the card.   How easy is it to miss sales tax on gift cards?  If you are only buying a gift card, no problem. Easy to catch!  But, if you are buying multiple items plus gift card — check your receipt — just to be safe.
