Toys ‘R’ Us Founder Charles Lazarus Dead at 94

He started the company when he was only 25 years old, back in 1948, he anticipated a ‘post-war’ baby boom, and there were would demand baby supplies and toys.  The company was called “Childrens’ Supermart’ selling baby furniture and quickly expanded to toys. In 1957 he opened the first Toys ‘R’ Us which grew to 1,600 stores. He was the CEO until 1994.  Toys ‘R’ Us released a statement:

  “There have been many sad moments for Toys’R’Us in recent weeks, and none more heartbreaking than today’s news about the passing of our beloved founder, Charles Lazarus. Our thoughts and prayers are with Charles’ family and loved ones.”
