Released from long-time manager Bill Rogin: It is with deep sadness that I regret to inform you all that R. Lee Ermey (“The Gunny”) passed away this morning from complications of pneumonia. He will be greatly missed by all of us.
Ronald Lee Ermey was an actor and a former United States Marine Corps Staff Sergeant and honorary gunnery sergeant,also a drill instructor. Ermey enlisted in the United States Marine Corps at the age of 17 where he eventually served in Japan and Vietnam. He starred in the 1987 movie FULL METAL JACKET and a new career began with more movie and TV roles and hosted two programs on The History Channel Mail Call and Lock N’ Load with R. Lee Ermey. He also did voiceover work, most notably as Sarge in the “Toy Story” franchise.
