Applicants that are not required to have 45 hours of college credit MUST be certified with the Texas Commission of Law Enforcement. Also increase the starting pay to $60,000. Mike Mata, president of the Dallas Police Association said,

Police officials had pushed for the changes as they look for ways to recruit more officers and get them on the street quicker.
