A Guy Named Luke Stands in the Way of Luke Combs’ Chart Greatness

A Guy Named Luke Stands in the Way of Luke Combs’ Chart Greatness

Below is a self-quarantined update to an article I penned in January.

Since releasing his sophomore album, What You See Is What You Get, in November 2019, Luke Combs has prevented himself from breaking his all-time Billboard chart record.

In late October 2019, Luke’s 2017 debut album, This One’s for You, reached No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Country Albums chart for the 50th week, tying him with Shania Twain’s Come On Over for the all-time record of most weeks at No. 1.

Since dropping in November, Luke’s sophomore album has spent 14 out of 18 weeks at No. 1, including this week.

No. 2 on the chart during nine of those 14 weeks? Luke’s This One’s for You.

In theory, if Luke scrubbed his sophomore album from streaming services for one week, his debut album would get the bump to No. 1, thus breaking his tie with Shania.

Of course, that’s not going to happen. It’s just food for thought while you self-quarantine. A more likely scenario would be that This One’s for You organically reaches No. 1 again…or Shania’s legion of fans re-buy Come On Over to put her back in sole possession of the crown…or Luke and Shania live happily ever after as king and queen.
