NEXT WEEKEND Aug. 11 and Aug. 13, it’s TAX FREE WEEKEND in TEXAS, clothing, shoes, backpacks and school supplies, are some of the main items will be sales tax exempt, according to the Texas Comptroller’s Office. That means shoppers can save about $8 for every $100 they spend. The sales tax exemption for Texas also includes items sold online, or by telephone or mail. Shoppers can use layaway plans to get the tax break. See the items that are tax free
- Clothing, including dresses, jeans, pajamas, jogging apparel, shirts, shorts, jackets, sweaters, coats, gloves, etc.
- Baby clothes and diapers
- Socks, undergarments, hosiery
- Shoes
- Hats
- Backpacks for elementary and secondary students (not luggage, briefcases, computer bags, purses, or gym bags)
- School supplies for use in an elementary or secondary school
Remember, any item that costs more than $100 is not tax free. Sales tax weekend does not apply to jewelry, handbags, purses, briefcases, luggage, umbrellas, wallets, watches and similar items.
