New Texas Law Requires All School Buses to Have Seat Belts

The new law in Texas Senate Bill 693 is for School buses =  means any Texas school district that buys a new bus, must be equipped with three-point seat belts.  The new state law doesn’t apply to school buses purchased before 2017, or school districts who vote to opt out of the law.  Read More:  HERE

The Texas Tribune   reported in 2015, a Houston school bus crash where two students lost their lives, the school bus was equipped with seat belts but the students killed were not wearing them.  2006 in Beaumont two high schoolers died when their school bus overturned.  Beaumont and Houston are two school districts that have opted out of the new law to make their own seat belt rules.
