Here is the official statement from Eddie Montgomery:
“I want to thank everyone for their support and prayers. Our world was turned upside down in an instant, and nothing could have prepared us for this,” Montgomery writes. “Over the past few months me and T-Roy have been working on what I think is the best record of our career. In the last few weeks we had been talking about what our first single would be. Then on September 8, none of that mattered.
“‘Better Me’ is a song we all loved,” Montgomery continues. “It speaks volumes about his life and who he had become and everybody he touched and how much he loved his family. I am so proud of this song and also to call him my friend, my family, my brother for 30 years.”
Official audio of the “Better Me”
I’m getting older
Founding myself and God getting a little bit closer
It’s over
I’m a little less reckless, little less wild card
Breaking hearts kinda senseless
Yeah, I’m coming around
I might cuss and fight, tell a few lies
Break a few rules, making promises I can’t keep
But I’ve turned the page on wilder days
I’m running all this down hoping you’ll see
I ain’t saying I’m perfect, but I’m working on a better me
I say I’m sorry
Sometimes it’s the hardest part to tell somebody
But baby I’m sorry
Yeah I’ve been praying
Coming from me that might sound a little bit crazy
But that’s how I’m changing
I might cuss and fight, tell a few lies
Break a few rules, making promises I can’t keep
But I’ve turned the page on wilder days
I’m running all this down hoping you’ll see
I ain’t saying I’m perfect, but I’m working on a better me yeah
Didn’t wanna call you up
Didn’t wanna just stop
Wanted to take my time and make sure I got every word right
.
