WHAT TO EAT:

Fletcher’s Corny Dogs:  It’s tradition,  sure there is many choices but make sure corny dog is on your list.  Fun Fact: Fletcher’s sells more than 600,000 corny dogs each year during the State Fair.

Funnel Cake Queso Bacon Burger: You know a funnel cake, but kick it up a notch with this new item.  It’s a beef patty with crispy bacon and nacho cheese-style queso sandwiched between two funnel cake buns dusted with powdered sugar.

Sutton’s Salt Water Taffy:  Sutton’s been selling taffy at State Fair’s since 1919, but have added flavors like: Strawberry, Black Walnut, Banana, Cinnamon, Peanut Butter, Pecan, or dare the jalapeño flavor.

Texas Fajita Fries:  This was an Big Texas award winner deep-fried beef fajita strips are seasoned with sriracha spice mix and served in a bread cone.

Tamale Donut:  Texas and Tamales go together, another new food item that brings a traditional tamale and sweetness of a donut.   It’s pork carnitas, with “made-from-scratch” masa transformed into a donut shape and fried and finished with a drizzle of homemade creamy jalapeno salsa.

WHAT TO RIDE:

Texas Star Ferris wheel: Can be seen for quite a distance standing 212-feet,  Heads up it takes 16 coupons and expect a long line, but worth the wait

Log Flume:  Fun for all ages as you ride along the river ad through lighted tunnels over the waterfall and of course ending with big splash which kids love.

Texas SkyWay:  This is still the best way to really see the entire view of the State Fair.  The aerial track stretches 1,800 feet between two stations

ATTRACTIONS:

  • Livestock shows,  Hall of State which features different exhibits including “Texas in the First World War,  Texas Discovery Gardens with daily events for the family,  Children’s Aquarium – kids love the feeding demos at Children’s Aquarium at Fair Park.
  • Celebrity Chef Kitchen  located in the Creative Arts building, checkout chefs from some of Texas’ most famous restaurants perform cooking demos, prepare signature dishes, share kitchen tips and even take questions for the  audience.
  • Texas Auto Show in the Texas Automotive Building. Presentations of new vehicles for the new car and truck lovers.  More info: HERE
  • Magnolia Beer Garden featuring Texas beers, craft and international beers and State Fair Wine Garden not only can you taste and sample incredible wines but great place to sit and enjoy jazz music. 

WHERE TO PARK

It’s a challenge to say the least, there are options to park off site, on the side of the road and walk up to fairgrounds or you might see people offering yards to park, but keep in mind security.  If you want to self park in the Fair Park parking lots that will cost you $15.00 bring cash, or valet for $30.00.  Many will simply take DART which will take you directly to the front gate of Fair Park

 

HELPFUL INFO:   Weekends always bring the biggest crowds,  but keep in mind high attendance during fair days for Dallas ISD which is Oct 13th- 20th.  and Oct 14th lots of Orange and Red that’s when UT and OU will cover the area of Fair Park for the Red River Showdown at the Cotton Bowl.
