TxDOT has plans to add 15 toll lanes to the state’s most congested roadways including I-35. Texas Department of Transportation officials, said plans are to expand I-35 from Williamson County to Hays County and that plan includes adding two managed toll lanes in each direction. Governor Greg Abbott said this week
“I think TxDOT is doing a great job to build more roads and unclog our congestion,” said Abbott “Obviously, we want them to do that in a way as I promised and that is without adding more toll roads, and I think they have the resources to be able to do that.”
Texas voters in 2014 and 2015 did approve resources to go to TxDOT for improvements and transportation projects, but those projects are not supposed to include toll lanes. MORE STORY: HERE
“In response to public comments received, we are developing a plan to scrub the UTP update of any toll roads in the proposed revisions,” TxDOT said.

Texas Sen. Kirk Watson responded on Monday to Governor:
It should surprise no one in the Texas Capitol that the money approved by voters in recent years was far too little to provide Texans true relief on our most congested roadways. Unless our leaders are willing to find the new money needed to invest in transportation infrastructure, all they are offering Texans is lip service. Talk is cheap. Roads are not.
