UPS Now Requires Customers to Show ID

UPS is making a few changes due to the recent Austin bombings, and the changes include showing ID when dropping off packages.  UPS is also asking that unknown shippers open their packages before they can be sent off.

Here’s the company’s full statement:

UPS utilizes a variety of security procedures. In light of the uncertainty surrounding the Austin bombings, the company implemented a temporary process for unknown shippers with unlabeled packages who wished to send a parcel at a UPS Store, company counter or other authorized service location. Packages of known shippers are not being opened. The temporary screening process requires unknown customers to tender their package open, or voluntarily open their package for visual inspection. Our first priority is the safety of our employees and the public.  UPS extends our condolences to friends and family of victims. We appreciate the dedicated efforts of law enforcement.
