The price increase is for regular brewed coffee. The Company said, the majority of lattes, mochas, tea lattes, iced coffee, frappuccinos, and iced tea will not change at nearly all U.S. locations. WHY the PRICE HIKE? A Starbucks spokeswoman said: The new cost of coffee is decided on “a product-by-product and market-by-market basis.” The brand says it has seen a rise in operating expenses, while its cost of sales (including rent) rose 13 percent.

TWITTER RESPONDS:
Starbucks to raise the price of coffee by 20 cents to cover the cost of allowing every single person in America to come into their stores and use the bathrooms for as long as they want.
Anyway…enjoy your Starbucks.

It appears that #Starbucks just slid through another substantial price increase: $.20 per coffee. Six years ago my coffee was $1.71 with tax; it is now approaching $3.00. What say you, @Starbucks?

.@Starbucks I think it’s finally gone too far. Today’s price increase makes my small, plain cup of coffee more expensive than my train ride to work. Time to move on. #itsnotmeitsyou #priceincrease #breakup #coffeebreak #starbuckscoffee

@Starbucks why did my Tall regular morning coffee go up 10% ? No one at the store seems to know “it’s what the register rings up” ?? The Grande & Venti regular Coffee DID NOT go up. Zero notice of price increase + NO regular coffee prices displayed anywhere #Unacceptable

Is Starbucks assuming there is no limit on what people is willing to pay for a coffee? I’ve been a loyal customer for years but have reduced frequency of visits at every price hike. 20 cents more, less trips. Interesting to evaluate demand elasticity.
