Sturgill Simpson has announced a new album and tour under a new name, Johnny Blue Skies.

The album, titled Passage Du Desir, comes out on July 12 via Sturgill’s own High Top Mountain Records. It was produced by David Ferguson.

The name change comes as Simpson promised Rolling Stone back in 2021 that he was done making albums under his own name.

The “Why Not? Tour,” a 28-date run billed as “Simpson’s first full tour in over four years,” commences in September. Most shows are billed as “An Evening with Sturgill Simpson Featuring Very Special Guest Johnny Blue Skies” with no opener.

According to an announcement, “Fans who purchase tickets on Ticketmaster and can’t attend will have the option to resell their tickets at the original price paid using Face Value Exchange. To protect the Exchange, Simpson has requested that all shows ticketed by Ticketmaster, except those in VA, IL and UT where Face Value Exchange can’t be mandated, use tickets that are mobile only and restricted from transfer.”
